Shashidhar Jagadishan will be the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of HDFC Bank. According to a report by the news agency PTI, the RBI has approved Jagdishan’s name as the successor of Aditya Puri, the current CEO and MD of HDFC Bank. Puri is retiring in October this year. Jagdishan has been associated with HDFC Bank since 1996. Presently, he is serving as the bank’s ‘change agent’ as well as head of the finance and HR department.
According to Jagdishan’s profile available on the HDFC Bank website, he joined the bank in 1996 as the manager of the finance function. He was given the responsibility of business head-finance in 1999. He was then appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of the bank in 2008. The bank’s website states that Jagadishan played a very important role in the growth of the bank. He headed the finance department and was instrumental in meeting the strategic goals.
Jagadishan is serving as the head of the Finance, Human Resource, Legal and Secretarial, Administration, Infrastructure, Corporate Communication and Corporate Social Responsibility departments.
Jagadishan has a total of 29 years of experience. He has graduated with specialization in Physics. He is a Chartered Accountant by profession and has a Masters degree in Economics. According to Jagdishan’s profile available on the news agency Bloomberg, he has completed his studies from Mumbai University and ‘University of Sheffield’.
Earlier, Aditya Puri told shareholders at the bank’s virtual AGM held in July that his choice as his successor was an internal candidate, who has been associated with the bank for 25 years. Earlier this year it was claimed in media reports that HDFC Bank has sent the names of three candidates to RBI for the successor of Aditya Puri with preference.
